Where Innovation Happens

This Week at Marina Vista!

Posted Date: 08/28/26 (02:25 PM)

Principal’s Message

What a great week of learning at Marina Vista! Our teachers have been working hard to strengthen our English Language Arts instruction, with a particular focus on our Benchmark ELA curriculum. Teacher teams spent time closely reviewing upcoming units to ensure we are pacing appropriately and that all students have access to grade-level learning. Teachers also explored the supporting resources within the curriculum to strengthen instruction in important areas such as phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, reading, and writing. We are excited to continue building strong readers, writers, and confident learners across all grade levels!

This weekend, Monterey Bay FC is hosting a special Back-to-School Night for local schools, and Marina Vista will be there! We are especially excited that our very own mascot, Sky the Hawk, will be participating in the halftime show. Discounted tickets are also available for families who would like to attend and cheer on Monterey Bay FC. See the flyer below for details!

Thank you to our students, families, teachers, and community partners for making Marina Vista such a special place to learn and grow. We have an exciting year ahead, and we are grateful to have such a supportive Hawk community alongside us.

Have a wonderful weekend, Hawks, and we look forward to seeing you Monday night for Back to School Night!

Around The Campus

September is Attendance Awareness Month!

As we enter September, we will be highlighting the importance of regular school attendance. Every day at school is an opportunity to learn, connect, and grow, and we want to celebrate our students and classrooms for making attendance a priority.

We will be launching fun incentives for students and classrooms that show improved attendance, along with the return of our Saturday Academies. Saturday Academy will provide students with an opportunity to recover instructional days when they have been absent. More information about dates, participation, and incentives will be coming soon!

Marina Vista's Daily Attendance Goal is 96% & Chronic Absenteeism Goal is 10% or Less

The graph below represents Marina Vista's average daily attendance (ADA) for each day of the month, as well as our current chronic absenteeism (missing 10% or more of school) rate. Monday's continue to be one of our most impacted days. Please let us know how we can support you in getting to school daily, and on time. Be sure to ask our team about Short Term Independent Study if you are in need.

Volunteering at Marina Vista

New State Requirements for Volunteers in Schools - We’re grateful for the many families interested in volunteering this school year! Please note that due to changing state laws, all volunteers, including those participating in field trips, must complete the following before volunteering:

Please review the volunteer paperwork and step-by-step training instructions provided by your child's school. Once all requirements are completed, the school office will process volunteer clearance.

Upcoming Events
Every Day at School Matters - Strong attendance helps students stay connected, engaged and on track for success. This year, families may receive mail or text updates about their student’s attendance, including both excused and unexcused absences. These updates are informational and designed to help families stay aware of missed learning time. Remember to report absences to your child’s school in a timely manner. If your family is experiencing barriers to regular attendance, support is available.

Your Voice Matters: Join us for our District English Learner Advisory Council - MPUSD families are invited to participate in our District English Learner Advisory Council (DELAC) meetings during the 2026 - 2027 school year. DELAC provides parents, guardians, and caregivers with an opportunity to share their voices, learn more about district programs and services, and help shape how we support multilingual learners across MPUSD. All parents, guardians, and caregivers are welcome. Childcare and dinner are provided. Visit our website or see flyer below for dates, times, and location.
