Where Innovation Happens

This Week at Marina Vista!

Posted Date: 10/16/26 (03:16 PM)

Good afternoon Marina Vista families!

We are excited to be back together after Fall Break and jump into another great week of learning, connection, and fun at Marina Vista! As we move through October, there is plenty happening around campus, and we are grateful for the continued support and partnership of our families.

This week, we held our School Site Council (SSC) and PTO meetings, where families and staff came together for productive conversations about school business, upcoming events, and ways to continue making Marina Vista an amazing place for our Hawks. It is wonderful to see so many people sharing ideas, contributing their time, and looking for ways to strengthen our school community. We are especially excited as we prepare for our upcoming Trunk or Treat! Thank you to everyone who helps plan, volunteer, and bring these fun community events to life. We are also still in need of donations so please drop off packaged and peanut free delights in the office before Friday the 30th.

On Friday, October 16, Marina Vista participated in the Great ShakeOut, an annual earthquake preparedness exercise practiced by schools, businesses, and communities nationwide. Students and staff practice the important safety steps “Drop, Cover, and Hold On.” This exercise helps our Hawks learn what to do during an earthquake and reinforces the importance of being prepared and staying safe. Practicing these simple actions helps build confidence and readiness for emergencies at school, at home, and throughout our community.

We are thrilled to invite our community to our upcoming school theater production of Aladdin on Thursday, October 22! We are proud of our students and staff who have worked hard to bring this production to life. School performances give our students an opportunity to showcase their creativity, build confidence, and share their talents with others. We look forward to celebrating their hard work and enjoying a little Marina Vista magic!

October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and we are continuing to focus on kindness, acceptance, inclusion, and belonging. At Marina Vista, we want every student to feel safe, respected, and valued. Bullying has no place in our school community! On Wednesday, October 21, we will celebrate Unity Day. Students and staff are encouraged to wear orange to show that we stand together for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion and against bullying.
Let's continue to remind our Hawks that small acts of kindness can make a big difference. Whether it is including someone in a game, offering encouragement, standing up for a classmate, or simply treating others with respect, we all have a role in making Marina Vista a welcoming place for everyone.

Thank you, families, for being such an important part of our Hawk community. We appreciate you!

Have a wonderful weekend, and keep taking care of yourselves, each other, and our community!

Celebrating Our Reading is Key Honorees!

We are excited to celebrate our own Marina Vista educators who were recognized with a district award for their outstanding work supporting student reading growth and achievement through Reading is Key! Congratulations to our Kindergarten team, Ms. Hertel and Mr. Bell, and from our 1st grade team Ms. Gem on this well-deserved recognition!

Now in its third year, the MPUSD's Reading is Key initiative celebrates the growth students make as readers and the achievements they reach along the way. This recognition highlights the thoughtful instruction, responsive teaching, collaboration, and encouragement that help our students become confident, capable readers.

We are proud of the dedication our educators bring to our students every day. Their work reflects our commitment to strong literacy instruction and ensuring every Hawk has the skills, confidence, and support needed to soar as a reader. Congratulations, and thank you for making a difference for our students!
